Learning and teaching are the core activities of the School. Our curriculum is engaging, filled with challenge and delivered in a style that allows our contemporary young students to grow in confidence, resilience and to have strong personal aspirations.
2018 - Whitsunday Anglican School ranked 18th in Queensland's top 50 Schools for 2017 OP Results
In February 2018 the Courier Mail released its list of Queensland's top 50 Schools for 2017 OP Results. Whitsunday Anglican School ranked 18th in this list with 38.33% of students receiving an OP of 1 to 5.


2017 - Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in STEM education
Following the success of Cara Stolp in 2015 and Dana in 2016, this year two students, Ryan Olsen and Ruturaj Vaidya, received Peter Doherty Awards.


The Related Appraisal System (RAS)
The Related Appraisal System was introduced at the School in May this year with the aim of enhancing and supporting staff with a view to improve school outcomes. The system has been adapted to reflect our Core Values and unique culture.
2017 - Regional Opti-MINDS Challenge Day
In October Whitsunday Anglican School Team 3 put in an admirable performance at the Opti-MINDS State Finals. The team members were Benjamin Binney, Emma Carroll, Hugh Hanrahan, Oliver Piperone, Paige Stolberg and Pranav Sivanujan.
2017 - Australian Maths Competition
Over 200 students entered the Australian Maths Competition from Year 3 to Year 12. The School performed very well in this highly competitive event, receiving four High Distinctions and 39 Distinctions. The High Distinctions were: Rhys Lawrence – Year 3, Year 7 – Lisa Grobler, and William Deeley and Harry Rosier – Year 8.
2017 - The Self Improving Schools Committee
The Self Improving Schools Committee has spearheaded the following innovations in curriculum:
- Learning Analytics - significantly reduces the time required to collect, analyse and publish educational data while giving school leaders and teachers simple, secure and efficient access to this critical information
- The Arts and Science of Teaching - the framework that underpins Whitsunday Anglican School’s pedagogy, and is designed to improve students through focused improvement in teaching practice
- Peer Observation - provides a vehicle for professional growth and learning, recognizes the expertise of teachers, and provides an opportunity to learn from each other.
2017 - Physics Achievements (Australian Institute of Physics)
Our Physics students have been recognised at the national level, with Ryan Olsen, Jonas Drijver, Ruturaj Vaidya and Nicholas McLaughlan receiving an Excellence in Physics Certificate from the Australian Institute of Physics.
2017 - RACI Chemistry Quiz (Royal Australian Chemical Institute)
High Distinctions (Top 10% Queensland): Year 9 - Samuel Lenton. Year 10 - Lucas Boets, Lachlan Iturbe and Miriam Elliot-Haynes. Year 11 - Ann Abraham, Dayna Bushell, Fariha Muzumdar. Year 12 - Saad Ashraf, Jonas Drijver, Ryan Olsen, Ruturaj Vaidya.
A further 25 students received Distinctions from Years 9 to 12.
2017 - ATCL Trinity College of London
Peyton Crofton (Yr 12) has received a Distinction on her ATCL Trinity College of London Diploma clarinet recital exam.
Ryan Olsen Year 12 has received a Distinction on his ATCL Trinity College of London.
2018 - Finalist in the Australian Education Awards
Whitsunday Anglican School is a finalist in the Regional School of the Year category in the 2018 Australian Education Awards which will be held in August.

2017 - University of Queensland Economics Competition
Max Gill, Sarah Maguira and Akansha Sinha received Distinctions in the University of Queensland Economics Competition.

2017 - Year 12 Cohort Scholarships
The first scholarship recipients from the 2017 Year 12 cohort are Maggie Formosa and Bridget Sprott who have received Collegiate Excellence Scholarships from Bond University which will contribute to 50% of their tuition fees. Bridget will study Law and International Relations while Maggie will study Law.
NEXT STEP 2017 - DESTINATIONS OF 2016 YEAR 12s
The Next Step survey, undertaken by the Queensland Government, targets all students who completed Year 12 and gained a Senior Statement in 2016, whether they attended a state, Catholic or independent school, or a TAFE secondary college.
In 2017, 87.0% of young people who completed Year 12 at Whitsunday Anglican School in 2016 continued in some recognised form of education and training in the year after they left school.

2017 - International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
Years 3 to 12 students were invited to sit the ICAS Engish, Maths and Science tests.
Credit and merti certificates are awarded to students who perform in the top 46% of the country - we received 127 credit and merit awards in the English competitions, 130 in the Maths competitios and 106 in the Science competitions.
Distinctions are awarded to students who achieved in the top 10% of the country and students who achieved in the top 1% of the country received High Distinctions. Three of our students received Distinctions and 5 students received High Distinctions!
