Community Engagement

At Whitsunday Anglican School we work to support groups in the broader community through service and social engagement. Our culture is philanthropic and we strive to build awareness of, and support those less fortunate than ourselves.

2018 - Tour de Cure Launch

Our students attended the launch of the 2018 Tour de Cure and also cheered on some of the participants as they set off on the charity ride.

2018 - School Captain named finalist in Queensland Multicultural Awards 2018

Year 12 student Imaan Ashraf was named a finalist in the Oustanding Achiever category for the Queensland Multicultural Awards 2018.

2018 - Service Learning Day

The first Service Learning Day of the year was to wear the colour orange to raise funds for our local Orange Sky Laundry van. Orange Sky Australia is the world's first free mobile laundry search for people who are homeless.

2017 - Mackay Relay for Life

In October the School presented Cancer Council Queensland with a donation of over $10,000 following the Mackay Relay for Life.

2017 - Mackay Sony Foundation Children's Holiday Camp

Sixteen campers and 114 volunteers participated in the camp which ran over 3 days at Whitsunday Anglican School. 

The camp serves not only as an opportunity for respite for families and an amazing time for campers, it also acts as an avenue for Year 11 students to enhance their compassion and appreciation for life.

2018 - Queen's Baton Relay

Students from the Middle and Senior Schools attended the Queen's Baton Relay to cheer on Year 10 student Lulu Piperone who was the first baton bearer during the Mackay leg of the relay.

2017/2018 - Whitsunday Anglican School Connects Breakfast Series

This exciting initiative gave members of the School community the opportunity to come together to share valuable stories of their life experiences.

The first keynote speaker was Mr Mick Crowe, WAS Board member and Managing Director of G&S Engineering Services. The second keynote speaker was Dr Bevan Wilson, WAS parent and local Anaesthetist. The third speaker was Carrie Williams.

2017 - Service Learning Days

Various Service Learning Days throughout the year allowed students to donate to some great causes while also get creative with their dress and have some fun. 

Themes included "Ugly Christmas" to raise money for Anglicare and red to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
